Red Sky
by Sergey Cherep
There are skies that stop you cold — and the sky in Red Sky is one of them. Sergey Cherep unleashes the full force of his Post-Impressionist vision on this dramatic 48" × 48" oil canvas, building a towering overhead spectacle of deep crimson, blazing orange, and churning white clouds that radiate outward from the upper canvas like the last breathtaking act of a summer storm. Beneath it, a band of snow-capped blue mountains holds the horizon with cool, steady authority — the perfect counterpoint to all that atmospheric fire above. A red barn and teal-roofed outbuildings sit quietly at the meadow's edge, grounded and unhurried, as if they have witnessed a thousand skies exactly like this one. In the foreground, a sweeping arc of richly worked sunflowers fills the lower canvas in deep golds, burnt oranges, and fiery reds — their thick impasto petals glowing as though lit from within, perfectly echoing the drama playing out above them. The entire composition moves in a single sustained breath from earth to sky, from the intimate warmth of the flowers to the wild grandeur of the heavens — a journey that rewards every moment of looking. One of Cherep's most emotionally charged and visually spectacular works in the collection. Signed by the artist.
